A Trezor hardware wallet with over $120,000 in cryptocurrency was stolen from a five-star hotel safe in the Dominican Republic. The name of the hotel has not been disclosed, but it is a well-known worldwide network.
The theft occurred this weekend and the culprit has not yet been found. It is no secret that hotel safes are of the lowest security level and it will not be difficult for a professional to open them. Thefts of money and valuables in hotels are not uncommon and most often money is stolen from hotels by the employees themselves and, less often, by vacationers. However, the theft of a cryptocurrency wallet may have occurred for the first time.
Considering the amount of funds stolen and the method of the crime, the police admit the possibility that the victim of the robbery was followed and the crime was prepared in advance. No hotel employee could have known about the contents of the safe in this particular case.
