On Google maps, online fraudsters replaced the phone number of one of the Spanish hotels. For some time, the hotel administration did not even know about this substitution. Potential clients, finding the hotel on Google maps, called the specified phone number and tried to book a room. They were allegedly told that at present the hotel only accepts payments in cryptocurrency. Apparently, the fraudsters were afraid of exposure and did not dare to work with real bank cards. For a long time, none of the callers dared to book a room using cryptocurrency. This caused considerable suspicion.
And finally, the fraudsters' scam was successful. A resident from Germany called the specified number and transferred almost 6 thousand euros to the fraudsters' crypto wallet. After which, naturally, his number was added to the blacklist and, naturally, he did not receive any confirmation of the room reservation.
After some time, the victim found real phone numbers on the official website of the hotel and contacted the administration. The phone number was quickly changed, but now the administration will think about how to compensate the unlucky client for the losses, because it was their fault that such a situation occurred.
The police only expressed concern, and reported that in this case the chances of finding the scammers are approaching zero and advised contacting Google.
