This story happened in the suburbs of Dublin. A young man, having lost a large sum of money on a crypto exchange and being quite drunk, threw his laptop into a trash bin. This laptop had a cold wallet installed, which contained less than $5 in cryptocurrency. The Irishman thus decided to quit playing on the exchange. And he succeeded. He did not go to the exchange for 30 days and had already forgotten about its existence, until the time came to receive his salary.
The fact is that from this month, his salary in the amount of 18 thousand euros was to be transferred in bitcoins to his cold wallet. A month earlier, he entered into such an Agreement with the company's management. Naturally, he completely forgot about this Agreement.
And on salary day, he realized what a mistake he had made. His salary was sent, according to the Agreement, to his cold wallet, which was stored on an old laptop. Now it was too late. Finding an old laptop in a landfill after 30 days is impossible.
This lesson will now remind the Irishman for a long time that you always need to have a backup option to restore access to your crypto wallet. Perhaps today, some homeless person is playing games on that laptop, completely unaware of what value he has in his hands ...
