On January 1, 2025, a Russian vacationing on Nai Harn Beach fell victim to robbers. The young man was swimming in the sea with his girlfriend. When they came out of the sea, they discovered that their things had been stolen. The robbers stole bank cards and 2 phones. The guy had an online wallet with cryptocurrency installed on his phone. The wallet itself contained various coins, totaling about 200 thousand dollars. At today's exchange rate, this corresponds to 2 bitcoins. The young people rushed to look for the robbers, but to no avail.
They did not wait for the police and immediately went to the hotel to change the passwords of the crypto wallet using a laptop. But, as it turned out, it was too late. The robbers withdrew all the cryptocurrency to third-party wallets.
After that, the young people had no choice but to report the theft to the local police.
How did the criminals manage to withdraw it so quickly?
According to the guy, the password for entering the crypto wallet was photographed and was in the gallery of his phone. This is certainly better than writing the password down in a notepad, but still, it is not reliable enough.
How the thieves managed to unlock a modern iPhone remains a mystery.
The main version of the police is that the young man was being followed and thus the password for entering the phone was known to the robbers. Also, perhaps there was a virus on the phone that transmits 4 digits to unlock the phone. Whatever the case, the robbers worked in a coordinated manner and very quickly. This clearly does not look like an ordinary theft on the beach, which is committed many times during a resort holiday.

If the funds were on the exchange, then you need to contact its administration in time with a request to find and block the stolen funds. If the money was in a cold wallet, then this significantly complicates their search and blocking. But at the same time, funds on the exchange are an additional risk, since you trust the management of your capital to a third-party platform.
