The seabed often hides treasures. Many enthusiasts of legends and stories about sea adventures and treasures, in search of “pirate gold,” travel to the sites of ancient naval battles and explore the remains of almost every ancient shipwreck. Some do so out of curiosity, others in the hope of finding pirate treasure. But many people do it because they love diving. After all, it's so nice to spend part of your vacation doing what you love — scuba diving. Especially when it's the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, the velvet season, and you're tired of sitting in a hotel.
So, while on vacation, a young couple of programmers from Armenia decided to dive near the site of the famous shipwreck of the Silver Captain. This place is not far from Galle, a city on the southern tip of Sri Lanka, located near Colombo.
It was a beautiful, quiet morning. Completely calm. The couple of divers slowly descended into the depths of the ocean. Today, surprisingly, there were no yachts or boats with tourists in their diving area. From time to time, they performed the necessary maneuvers and looked around to see how the sun's rays played in the water and whether there were any large predatory fish nearby. One of the divers signaled to the other that he had noticed something strange at the bottom. It was an unusual mound among the sand and shell debris that should not have been there. It seemed to him that something flashed in the water, at the bottom...
Could someone have lost a depth gauge or a flashlight, he thought. Unfortunately, many scuba divers and drunk tourists carelessly secured their auxiliary equipment before diving. Therefore, often, after the tourist season had subsided a little, the locals would bring to the surface: depth gauges, knives, flashlights, watches, and sometimes even fins and pieces of suits. And also a huge pile of all sorts of small items that had come loose, fallen to the bottom, and been lost.
Finally, they reached the ocean floor and were able to take a closer look at everything. The one who noticed a strange pile of sand carefully dipped his hand into it and... pulled out an ordinary plastic sandwich container. Through the translucent walls of the container, you could see some pieces of paper and something that resembled a flash drive. Fortunately, the depth was not very great, and the sturdy plastic withstood the water pressure. Curiosity got the better of them, and the divers decided to climb onto the boat.
They were astonished when they opened the sealed container. One piece of paper stood out among the others — with notes resembling passwords from a crypto wallet. And they were right...
In the evening, they found out from local fishermen why there were no divers in such good weather. It turned out that a week before their dive, in the same square, in the same place, a cheerful and very drunk company was relaxing. They were fishing, drinking strong cocktails, and fighting. Because of this, one of the merrymakers fell overboard... And sharks don't need to be invited twice for lunch.
No one has ever seen the crypto businessman in Sri Lanka again. Nor the divers from sunny Armenia. But it is known that the divers-programmers' business has taken off, and now they only travel to the mountains and with security.
